Owning and operating the Carmichael coal mine
Bravus Mining and Resources has a focus on local jobs and procurement, ensuring we make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.
We are one of Australia’s leading responsible miners.
Operating the Carmichael Coal Mine
The Carmichael mine is an open cut thermal coal mine in the Galilee Basin. The nearest town is Clermont, about 160km away, and the mine is more than 300km inland from the Queensland coast.
The Carmichael mine produces in the order of 10 million tonnes of coal each year for the export market. It is one of more than 100 coal mines in Australia.
At peak production, the thermal coal extracted from the Carmichael Mine will contribute less than 2.6 per cent of Australia’s exports in 2018-2019.
Working with First Nations People
Bravus Mining and Resources recognises the Traditional Owners of the lands of the Carmichael Project, the Wangan and Jagalingou, Juru, Jangga and Birriah peoples.
Bravus Mining and Resources signed Indigenous Land Use Agreements with Traditional Owners from the Wangan and Jagalingou People, Jangga People, Birriah People and Juru People. These voluntary agreements determine future development and set frameworks for working together for mutual benefit for current and future generations.
We also developed and implement rigorous Cultural Heritage Management Plans to preserve important sites and practices.
