Bravus partners with NRL Cowboys House to support students from remote and educationally disadvantaged communities
More young women from regional and remote Queensland will be supported to finish high school and move into jobs or further study thanks to a new partnership between Bravus Australia and NRL Cowboys House.
Bravus Australia Chief Executive Officer Mick Crowe said the resources and infrastructure company had signed on as Presenting Partner of the NRL Cowboys House Girls Campus to strengthen a proven program and link students with pathways into Queensland’s mining, rail, and port sectors.
Since opening in 2019, the NRL Cowboys House Girls Campus has seen 43 students from remote and educationally disadvantaged North and Far North Queensland communities complete their secondary education in Townsville and transition into further study, training, or employment.
“As a company, we’re passionate about creating opportunities and pathways for the next generation of regional Queenslanders, whether that’s on the footy field or on site,” Mr Crowe said.
“As a parent, you understand how important it is to create the right environment for young people to grow, particularly young women taking big steps early in life. Leaving family and community to pursue an education takes real courage, and that should never be underestimated.
“This partnership isn’t symbolic. It’s about education, life skills, and turning classroom learning into practical outcomes. Through our mining, rail, and port operations, we can show these young women how their learning connects to real careers available close to home.”
Cowboys Community Foundation Chief Executive Officer Fiona Pelling said a life-sized mural of the first five Girls Campus graduates has been positioned at the entrance to the building to mark the Bravus partnership.
The artwork celebrates the leadership, resilience, and ambition of the first cohort and has been deliberately designed with space for future students to add their own artistic contribution.
“Bravus has been one of our most committed community partners since 2019, and this partnership is the natural next step in a relationship built on shared values,” Ms Pelling said.
“They understand what NRL Cowboys House is about – it’s not just a boarding facility, but a place where our young people can discover their potential and build the confidence to step boldly into their futures.
“This partnership sends a powerful message to every student, family and community we serve – together, we are building a stronger future for us all.”
Bravus first joined the Cowboys’ community programs in 2019 as a supporter of the Try for 5! school attendance initiative, before becoming Presenting Partner of the Adopt?a?School program and later a Platinum Partner of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys NRL and NRLW sides.
More than 2,000 people work across Bravus Australia’s operations at the Carmichael mine, the North Queensland Export Terminal at the Port of Abbot Point, and through Bowen Rail Company.
The award-winning NRL Cowboys House is a joint initiative of the National Rugby League, the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, the Queensland Government, and the Australian Government.
