Statement on Juliet Lamont's sentencing in Bowen Magistrate's Court

2 December 2021

The following statement can be attributed to an Bravus Mining & Resources spokesperson: “Ms Lamont is a repeat offender who has shown no regard for the laws of civil society or the safety of the mining industry workers and emergency services personnel she puts at risk with her premeditated, illegal, actions. “The Queensland Police Minister was today quoted in the media as saying the maximum penalty for using a Dangerous Attachment Device was up to 2 years imprisonment or a fine of nearly $7,000. “The penalty Ms Lamont received in Bowen Magistrate’s Court today for using one of these “lock-on” devices on a Bowen Rail Company locomotive was a suspended sentence and $500 fine – less than the amount you’d be fined for busking without a permit. “It’s time the Queensland Government got serious about enforcing real consequences to stop this sort of illegal protest before a tragedy happens.”  ENDS Download PDF...
